SolaPup Pro Tips: Dosing for Puppies and Adult Dogs
We get asked this by new customers, so here it is in exactly the words we send back every time, no guesswork, just what actually works.
For adult dogs
1. Start slowly. Begin with half the recommended daily dose for the first 2 to 3 days.
2. Split the daily dose into two. Morning and evening, for consistent support.
3. Crumbling is completely normal. Some chews may crumble a little during transport, this is perfectly normal and the crumbs are still fully effective. Each chew equals approximately 5ml, so simply measure out the right amount into their bowl for them to lap up. Great for fussy dogs or dogs with dental issues.
For puppies aged 3 to 12 months
1. Follow our puppy dosing, not the weight chart. The weight-based guide on the label is designed for adult dogs only. Puppies' bodies are still developing, and younger dogs, especially those who have been spayed or neutered, can be sensitive to higher doses of glucosamine and chondroitin, which is exactly why the puppy dose stays lower for longer.
2. Start with 1 chew a day, split in half. Half in the morning and half in the evening, ideally at mealtimes.
3. Keep to this until 12 months. After that, it depends on breed size.
- Small and medium breeds (adult weight under 50 lbs) can start easing towards adult dosing from around 12 months.
- Large breeds (50 to 100 lbs adult weight) should stay on the lower dose through 18 months.
- Giant breeds (over 100 lbs adult weight) do best with a slower approach through 18 to 24 months.
Our complete puppy dosing guide has the full age-by-age breakdown for every stage.
4. Watch for increased urination. If you notice this at any point, simply drop back to the previous dose where it did not occur. It settles quickly.
Roxy never got the luxury of a dosing guide, we worked it all out ourselves, the slow and careful way, because she was the one who taught us that consistency matters more than anything else. These pro tips exist so nobody else has to guess.
